Yes! I actually have a background in art, and when I was working on my masters’, it only seemed natural to do my own illustrations.
Interested in getting some illustrations for your own paper? I am available for commissions! My rate for basic illustration is typically $25 (USD) per hour, with individual images usually taking between 1.5 - 3 hrs and more complicated full figures taking up to 12. Final images can be exported in multiple formats for use in papers, talks, or printing, as long as credit is given. Graphic design (such as logos or full figures and diagrams) is $50 per hour.
My particular expertise is (unsurprisingly) birds, but I can also illustrate a wide range of organisms. I will work with you to ensure that the depictions are accurate and highlight characteristics of interest, making them particularly useful for non-model organisms with phenotypic variations that may not be depicted in available illustrations or easily captured by photograph.
Flexible pricing available for those outside North America, Europe, and Australia. I believe that every scientist should be able to have access to high-quality art that makes their figures and papers stand out, and so am willing to work with your budget.
